M40 Tropical Boots High, Hazel
German troops serving in North Africa were issued with both the tall knee-length and short ankle length boots made of canvas and leather. Although both were of sound and practical construction, the taller boots were unpopular on account of the time it took to take them off and to replace with the complex lacing. There were three versions of the high boot, each modified slightly from the original concept that was first designed in 1940 at the Tropical Institute of the University of Hamburg.
